Brave Rail Staff Member Suffers Severe Wounds Amid Mass Knife Incident on Express Train
A valiant railway staff member who stepped in to protect travelers during a mass knife incident on a express train has suffered life-threatening injuries, police confirmed on Sunday.
Details of the Terrifying Incident
Surveillance footage allegedly shows the staff member attempting to halt the attacker as the train journeyed between a city and another station in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses described a terrifying 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with injured passengers fleeing through carriages.
The suspect, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in detention for interrogation. Police declared a significant event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.
Emergency Reaction and Aftermath
The event on Saturday night led to 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Five individuals have now been released from hospital.
A bystander recorded the suspect brandishing a large knife and being subdued with a Taser as he confronted officers on the platform. He was reportedly heard yelling, "Kill me, kill me."
“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – especially the brave member of rail staff whose family are being supported by specialist personnel,” stated a senior police officer.
Labor Response and Appeals for Action
Rail associations were quick to praise staff and demand increased measures. One union leader stated he would be “requesting immediate meetings with authorities, rail employers and police to guarantee that we have the best available support, tools and robust procedures in operation”.
A different union representative urged the train operator and government “to act quickly to review security, to support the impacted workers, and to make sure nothing like this occurs again”.
Operator Commended for Quick Action
The operator who stopped the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “well”, and has been praised by union officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.
“The driver did not halt the service in the middle of two stops where it’s clearly difficult for the first responders to reach, but he carried on going until he got to Huntingdon, where the assistance was almost waiting,” stated a association representative.

Authorities stated they got the first distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.
